Classes are offered from the beginner’s level up to semi-private lessons for the competitive twirler where students will be prepared for competitions at the Provincial, National and International level.  CBTF accredited coaches work with your children and all training is built on the CBTF Skill Development Program.

Baton Pathways

Session Classes - Twirl Bugs

An introductory class designed to let you experience the fun and challenge of the sport of Baton Twirling. Children 5-7 years of age. This class is 30 minutes in length and runs from September – November.

CLASS ATTIRE

  • Shorts
  • Tight fitting t-shirt
  • Indoor white soled runners
  • Hair – Ponytail (tied back, up, or off the face)
Twirl Time Program

These classes provide an excellent way to further your child’s twirling education after 2-3 years of combination classes. Particular emphasis is placed on baton twirling skills as well as conditioning, flexibility and stretch training.

After completing the 1st year in the Twirl Time program, students may be able to join the SOBG Competitive Twirling Program, or continue training through the  Twirl Time Program.

Twirl Time 1: 45 minute class once per week. Focus is on an introduction of twirling skills.

Twirl Time 2: 45 minute class once per week. Focus is on continuing the introduction of twirling skills.

Twirl Time 3: 60 minute class once per week. Focus is on skill development for those students not wanting to enter the competitive stream.

*Cost is per month, based on 34 classes in the dance year.

CLASS ATTIRE

Female/Identifies Female

  • Plain black leotard.  We recommend Capezio BraTek (#MC110) or Mondor Pinch Front Tank Leotard (#3546) 
  • Mondor (#310 or #314) in Suntan, or a color that matches dancer’s skin tone
  • Tan Jazz shoes (Bloch or Capezio). Color can be altered to match dancer’s skin tone
  • Hair – Ballet Bun
  • 1 Baton (2 Batons required if registered in Twirl Tyme 3)

Male/Identifies Male

  • White T-shirt
  • Black shorts or leggings
  • Black Jazz shoes (Bloch or Capezio)
  • 1 Baton (2 Batons required if registered in Twirl Tyme 3)

*We fully support our dancers if they would like to alter the color of their tights and shoes to match their skin tone.

SOBG Competitive Program

SOBG Competitive Program

The Sundown Optimist Baton Group was formed in 1967 as part of Canada’s Centennial Celebration, and named after Regina’s Buffalo Days Exhibition. The team remains a strong staple in the Regina Community to this day, and is provided with opportunities to perform at many events around the city throughout the year.

The SOBG students work diligently, practicing during the week and on Saturdays. The team has the opportunity to travel to many National and World Championships, and is recognized around the world. As well, two special performances at Optimist International Conventions remain a highlight to this day. Please check our SOBG page for more information.

Baton – 1 hour program: CBTF Pre-Competitive Program: 1 hours of class time per week.

Baton – 2 hour program: CBTF Pre-Competitive Program: 2 hours of class time per week.

Baton – 3 hour program : C & BN Level Solo: 3 hours of class time per week.

Baton – 4 hour program – BN-BI level Solo: 4 hours of class time per week.

Baton – 5 hour program – BI-A level Solo: 5 hours of class time per week.

Students in the SOBG Competitive programs will also have an additional SOBG group training time on Saturdays. These classes will be included through the program fee for SOBG.

At the 4 and 5 hour program levels it is required that at least one Ballet, Jazz, and/or Acro class is taken in conjunction with the baton classes. For students in the 1, 2 or 3 hour programs, taking a Ballet, Jazz, and/or Acro class is strongly recommended.

  • Tan In-Step Baton runners (recommended for training). Color can be altered to match dancer’s skin tone
  • 2 Batons
  • Hair – Bun (tied back, up, and off the face)
